Dental Crowns

Dental crowns are used to improve the appearance of a tooth, to reshape teeth damaged either by disease or by trauma. In cases where teeth are weakened either as a result of congenital disorders or by poor hygiene or trauma, dental crowns can be used to strengthen them. Because they cover the visible part of the teeth, dental crowns as well as being functional go a long way to improve the face aesthetically.

Dental crowns are usually made from many different materials; acrylic resins, gold, and porcelain are widely used. The choice of these is due to the fact that they can be very resistant and non-reactive thus they may not be degraded easily and would not cause negative reactions to the individual. Because the application of dental crowns will need the underlying teeth to be prepared first, usually by filing in a way such that when the crowns are fitted, they sit easily and do not in any way distort the face and provide a natural biting surface, dental crowns  are not ideal when considering its use for cosmetic purposes only. If your tooth has undergone significant decay and there is not enough tooth structure remaining, contact your personal cosmetic dentist immediately to consult about dental crowns and the most important thing, your oral health.
